BTS’s Jung-kook: From a Cover in 2014 to a Duet on KBS Song Festival in 2015
In 2014, a week after Zion.T’s single “Yanghwa BRDG” was released, BTS’s Golden Maknae, Jung-kook, posted a cover of the song on BTS’s blog, although he did make some changes to the title and some of the lyrics. He gave his adapted cover of the song the title “Working”. He has a different family background from Zion.T’s, and he wanted to put it in lyrics, so that’s why he modified the title and some of the lyrics of the song. However, the major conceit is the same as the original. Both the songs, the cover and the original, tell a story about how he used to be as a child who was still clueless and had his parents to support his life, but now he realizes that he is in the place where he always used to see someone else who succeeded. It turns out that Jung-kook’s cover managed to get the original singer’s attention. Zion. T picked Jung-kook as the idol who did the best cover of his song. Later, Jung-kook was announced as the winner for Best Cover Artist in KCON LA 2015. Watch the clip below! In 2016, Zion.T shared a stage with Jung-kook, bringing the song “Yanghwa BRDG” to the 2015 KBS Song Festival. The soft performance they gave shook many of their fans. On the stage, Zion.T was dressed in a classy suit, while Jung-kook was wearing a comfortable sweater. When you think about it, it’s amazing how Jung-kook went from covering the song in 2014 to actually getting to perform it on stage with the original singer over a year later. Indeed, true talent will find its own way! So proud of you, Kookie!
Produce 101 Contestants: Cover During Position Evaluation
On the 6th episode of Produce 101, Jang Keun-suk, one of the hosts, met up with the trainees to announce the next challenge, an evaluation episode after an episode of “elimination”. The trainees were tasked to perform live in groups, based on the positions they want to debut in: vocal, dance, or rap. The host provided six songs for vocals including: Big Bang’s “Monster”, EXO’s “Call Me Baby”, Huh Gak and John Park’s “My Best”, GFriend’s “Me Gustas Tu”, Zion.T’s “Yanghwa BRDG”, and Tashannie’s “Day by Day”. Kim Se-jeong from Jellyfish Entertainment, who was the winner of the previous episode, got the privilege of being the first trainee among the others to choose the song she wanted to perform. She chose Zion.T’s “Yanghwa BRDG”, and was joined by other trainees to build a team. Watch the team’s heartwarming performance, below!
The performance brought the audience to tears because of the emotional singing that the team brought to the stage. In particular, Kim Se-jeong’s high notes got a lot of attention. No wonder that this cover became a favorite of so many people! The team then succeeded to rank first for the vocal category, and Kim Se-jeong emerged as the winner in the vocal category. Congrats, girls!

Honeyst’s cover in d.o.b D.o.b (dance or band) is a survival program by FNC Entertainment and Mnet. Two teams needed to compete in order to debut as the next FNC artist. It was the first male dance group in FNC or the traditional band. On episode 6, the band team, made up of Dong Seong, Cheol Min, Kim Hwan, and Seung Seok covered Zion.T’s “Yanghwa BRDG” with their unique re-arrangements. Bet you can’t stop listening to their cover!

True Meaning of The Song
On JTBC’s program “Give Me A Meal”, Zion.T was invited onto the show and shared the touching backstory behind his hit track “Yanghwa BRDG”. On a taxi ride, he explained “I wrote this song when I was in a slump back in 2014. I’ve never really talked about my story so I wanted to share about my life through “Yanghwa BRDG”. He added “I was crying when I was writing this song while on the airplane. Tears automatically rolled down when I though about my family”. (allkpop.com) It is also said that the song was written in less than 30 minutes. Through the lyrics, we can see that it tells a family story that compares his father’s path to Yanghwa bridge. It tells us the difficult time he and his family were having, but still managed to remind them to be happy. The way he brings the song is very personal, like talking to a best friend, or putting out words from the diaries. It is a comforting song with heartwarming lyrics. Many simply remind us to be just happy and healthy.
