Treasure Doyoung’s Pre-Debut
In Treasure, Doyoung debuted when he was 18 years old in the Korean age system, having not even reached his 17th birthday in the international age system. Some of you are probably wondering how young was he when he started his journey as a trainee? Where did he come from? And, how he ended up as an idol? Don’t worry, we have gathered info about Doyoung from before his debut. Let’s see the story down below! Doyoung was born with the name Kim Doyoung. Maybe you know some K-pop idols who came from outside Seoul or even outside Korea so they had to leave their hometown to pursue their dream. However, the case is different for Doyoung. He came from Seoul, and he was born and raised there. In fact, Doyoung’s home is located in the same district as YG Entertainment’s building. So, it’s not that far for him if he wanted to go home while being a trainee. So, how did he end up becoming a trainee? Doyoung was so young at that time, just like his name. He studied dance and singing when he was still in elementary school. But, as the K-pop industry started to become more and more popular, not only nationwide but also globally, Doyoung decided to join an audition for a K-pop agency when he was just 11 years old. Doyoung joined the audition for YG Entertainment which, at that time, was popular for their new K-pop groups including WINNER, iKon, and Akdong Musician. Well, of course, BIGBANG and 2NE1 are also their big hits, so no wonder Doyoung sang Taeyang’s solo song called “Eyes, Nose, Lips” when he auditioned. And, the little Doyoung who was still in the 3rd grade passed the audition. But, he was too young at the time. Yes, his dancing and singing skills were impressive, but he still needed to improve his skills to be placed where the best trainees practice. While studying in school, Doyoung trained hard in the dancing and vocal area. After a year and a half, finally, Doyoung proved his worth and joined the other trainees.
Treasure’s Doyoung on Stray Kids
Before debuting in 2020 with his fellow members in Treasure, Doyoung appeared in a survival program aired on Mnet in 2017. Not only him but there were also other YG Entertainment trainees who showed up. It wasn’t actually their show, to be fair. Instead, the show was called Stray Kids, and as you can see from the title, it’s the show about Stray Kids the boy group before they debuted. Doyoung appeared as a YG Entertainment trainee to do battle with a JYP Entertainment trainee. As you probably know, the two companies’ founders, Park Jinyoung and Yang Hyunsuk, are friends. They held this battle to make their trainees become even stronger. So now, let’s see the clip of the YG vs JYP battle on Stray Kids.
At the time, Doyoung was only 15 years old or 14 years old in the international age system. Park Jinyoung, the producer of JYP, was surprised by the fact that the youngest member was so young. As for Stray Kids, their youngest member was born in 2001. What do you think of Doyung’s performance back then? He was so cute, right?
Treasure Doyoung’s Pre-Debut in YG Treasure Box
In November 2018, YG Entertainment announced a new program called YG Treasure Box which aired on JTBC2. The program is just like Stray Kids’ survival program. Since this came from YG Entertainment, unlike Stray Kids, the concept of YG Treasure Box was different. There were 29 trainees of YG Entertainment that would soon be debuting in YG Entertainment’s new boy group. The show aired starting from November 2018 until January 2019. In the final episode, five or more trainees would be chosen for the debuting team, Treasure. Haruto, Yedam, Junghwan, Junkyu, Jeongwoo, Jaehyuk, and Hyunsuk were chosen as the debuting team. But, fans asked for more trainees to be debuted. So, YG Entertainment announced the second debut team which consisted of Yoonbin, Mashiho, Doyoung, Yoshi, Jihoon, and Asahi and was called Magnum. Both Magnum and Treasure then formed into one group called Treasure13. However, in December 2019, Yoonbin left the group before it made its debut, so the group’s name changed to Treasure. Let’s see some clips of Doyoung’s performance in YG Treasure Box!
Treasure Doyoung’s Debut with Treasure
Doyoung made his first appearance on TV in 2017 as YG Entertainment’s trainee. Little by little, he showed up in other reality shows such as YG Treasure Box in 2018 and 2019. However, the group didn’t make their debut right after the show finished. The fans had to wait for over a year. That is probably because, in 2019, YG Entertainment faced a crisis due to the case of Burning Sun from Seungri and Yang Hyunsuk. It was too risky for Treasure to debut at that time when they could be targeted by hate comments even when they didn’t do anything wrong. And, it turned out that YG Entertainment wanted to re-brand Treasure with their new name, Treasure instead of Treasure13. In August 2020, YG Entertainment finally released the long-awaited teaser for Treasure.
Doyoung, of course, was included in the team along with Yedam, Hyunsuk, Yoshi, Junkyu, Haruto, Jihoon, Mashiho, Jeongwoo, Jaehyuk, Asahi, and Junghwan. The group made its debut with a song called “Boy” which was released on August 7, 2020.
They also released the dance version of “Boy.” Let’s watch them perform “Boy” in YG Entertainment’s practice room.
Since Treasure has Japanese members, they also promoted and debuted in Japan. Let’s see the debut of Treasure in Japan.
Good luck with the Japanese debut, Treasure!
